We made it to Friday and with that another new announcement from our Governor with a "Shelter in Place" starting tomorrow, Saturday, May 21. Amidst all the negative and scary news, we have been staying positive and strong here at our house. Friends are passing along great resources to stay happy and moving. Shout out to Buddha Belly Kids Yoga for providing a Zoom meeting with a 45 minute yoga session. My two youngest kids had a blast and got some great exercise. We made Emoji's out of clay and made our own GIFs. There are so many people doing so many great things. When we are in dark times, we find light within each other. Keep your heads up!
I was up at 7:00 this morning with a cup of coffee at my computer planning for another day of online teaching with my students. I am so impressed with how well they are adapting to this new way of learning. Students offered me guidance as I navigate through this uncharted territory of Google Hangouts as a way to get information in their hands. Sharing their first hand accounts of how they are handling this crisis and how they are feeling about their family and friends brought a quiet understanding and empathetic air around all of us. As the day progressed, the text chain between my mom friends grew with everyone sharing ideas, inspiration, and a good laugh to keep spirits high.
Trying to navigate through what seems to be the new normal with the spread of COVID-19 has had its challenges. Since Friday's announcement of schools being closed my energy, time, and focus has been consumed with trying to figure out how to continue teaching my students under these constraints. I am not a tech savvy person, so to not only figure out new platforms but also how to present within them has been tough for me. That being said, I am finding it to be exciting learning new ways to provide instruction with tools such as Google Hangouts and Yo Teach. As a new day begins and I have one distance learning discussion behind me, I hope to focus my energies more on my own family and their needs.
