A Few Things About Mrs. Christiansen
I have had the honor and absolute pleasure of teaching at Skinner for the past 19 years! This will be my fourth year in seventh grade after a long rewarding career in third grade and before that, a short time in second and several years in kindergarten.
I attended Augustana College for my undergraduate work and National Louis University where I received my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.
My favorite author is Haruki Murakami and favorite book is The Wind Up Bird Chronicle.
My favorite band is Wilco.
I have an awesome family and am a mother of three amazing boys ages 13, 8, and 6.
In my free time I love to run, eat out and explore new cuisines and restaurants, go to as many concerts and festivals as I can, travel, and explore all the amazing places our great city has to offer.
This summer you will find me along the 606 trail training for a half marathon in August and The Chicago Marathon in October.
Summer is Here!
I hope you are all taking the time to do all the things that make you happy and whole this summer! You have a big year ahead, so get a lot of rest and relaxation so that you are ready to bring your "A Game" in September.
You have 1,440 minutes in each one of your summer days. I hope you are taking 25-45 of them each day to find a comfy place to read. Remember that your summer reading requirement is to complete 7 books. They can be audio, digital, or my favorite, the good 'ol paperback ones. Five of the books are your choice, however there are two I am assigning. Flipped, buy Wendelin Ban Draanen and The Code: The 5 Secrets of Teen Success, by Mawi Asgedom. After reading each of your seven books, you are to complete a Flipgrid book talk (see instructions below).
Additionally on Flipgrid, I am asking that you do a video introducing yourself to your classmates and me.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year together. Until then, enjoy your summer! Come back ready to roll.
